The Broken Hill Proprietary Company Limited is interested in deposits of hard limestone or marble with low phosphorous content close to or within Spencers Gulf. It is presumed that the hard limestone is required for use as a flux. The Point Turton limestone has a low phosphorous content. The deposit is accessible by road and is adjacent to a substantial jetty which is used for wheat shipments. The approximate extent of the limestone in this district was investigated and a plane table survey made of the quarry area adjacent to the Point Turton jetty, (see map (b) ). The writer was accompanied by Mr. A. R. Crawford (Geologist) while carrying out this work.
