An inspection for suitable road-making materials was requested by the District Council of Meningie. A telephone call to Mr. Clifton, District Clerk, elicited the information that roads in the district had fared badly in the recent heavy rains. He was anxious to obtain material which would be stable under wet conditions. In addition, the material used should not be of a sandy nature as this would tend to blow off the road during the summer. The ideal road metal would be mainly small rubble with sand filling in spaces. The main area for which a suitable supply of road metal was urgently required covers Hundreds Bonney and Baker.
