Instructions were received from the Director of Mines to report on the possible economic significance of the Eocene clays in the Mt. Gambier Area. A visit was made to the district to ascertain the general geography and to inspect Knight's Sand Pit, at the only known outcrop of the Eocene in the South-East Province. Otherwise, all information has been gathered from records in the offices of the Geological Survey.
