The area recently proved extends along the south eastern margin of Telford Basin between N-S lines 300 and 9200 and is a western extension of the main (Telford) seam coal proved previously in the south eastern sector of Telford Basin. Boring operations along a length of 9,000 feet have proved coal to an arbitrary 110 feet cover of overburden and sufficient drilling has been undertaken to ‘indicate’ the coal seam to a depth of 150 feet. Within limits defined by maximum overburden cover of 110 feet vertical depth, faulting, coal seam thickness and ash content it is estimated that 1.62 million tons of coal are available for open cut mining; losses in working will possibly reduce this estimate by 5%. The overall ratio of overburden to coal (recoverable) being 2.82:1. The coal has a weighted average ash content of 25.12% with sulphur content 0.65% and calorific value 7,284 B.T.U./lb (these and other analyses listed are referred to standard 12% moisture content).
