Drainage problems in the Loxton Irrigation area have called for a clearer understanding of the stratigraphy of the area between Loxton and Morgan. Apart from Quaternary sediments, the sequence is normal marine, in which five formations may be recognised as depths shallower than 300 feet and of Lower Miocene age or younger. Three of the formations have economic applications for drainage purposes or building stone.
