Following preliminary investigations into the occurrence of gypsum in a deposit of probable economic importance at "Salt Lake", Hundred Haines, Kangaroo Island, by D. King, Geologist, and the writer during March 1955, drilling operations were carried out by the writer and a crew of two men from May 21, to June 2, 1956, to investigate the nature of the deposit, and assess the mineable reserves of gypsum. A total of 24-3" diameter hand bores were drilled on the main area of the lake to prove 2 million tons of gypsum.
