Footage and average assays are tabulated for iron ore intersected in drilling in the Racecourse Area to 4pm, 14 June 1956. Ten million tons of higher grade iron ore (56% Fe; 2.4% Mn; 8% Insol) and 5.5 million tons of lower grade ore (45% Fe; 1.4% Mn; 20% Insol) containing 8 million tons of metallic iron have been indicated. This shows a substantial increase over the figures quoted in Progress Report No. 12 dated 23 February 1956. A further 5 million tons may be found in the area in depth. The increase in tonnage results from deeper drilling extending the known orebodies and is not due to any lowering of grade. In the same period the average grade has improved from 49% Fe, 1% Mn, 15% insol to 52% Fe, 2% Mn, 12% Insol.
