The deposit of clay situated on the northern bank of Salt Creek was first recorded by Departmental Prospector, A.S. Giles, in September, 1949. A twenty acre Claim was pegged by the claimholder in 1951 after a proclamation made this land available for mining in an area otherwise reserved from operation of the Mining Act. Geological inspections have been made by K.R. Miles in November 1949, and by M.L. Wade in September 1950 (both reports unpublished). Samples from the deposit were submitted to the Ceramics Laboratory and the results of tests carried out are published (Mining Review 93 p. 26, 1952 - H. Ellerton).
