A separation of the lanthanons was obtained by hydrolysing the unwanted liquor constituents from the oxidized barren liquor at approximately pH 4. However, this procedure was impracticable owing to the costs involved and the fact that little or no thorium could be recovered. The addition of phosphate prior to hydrolysis had no beneficial effect on the separation. Since the concentration of the lanthanons in the barren liquor is low, it is probable that any recovery process based on the removal of the unwanted constituents would be uneconomic.
