South Australia’s most promising beryl deposits are in the Olary region about 250 miles north-east of Adelaide. Occurrences in other parts of the state are known. Beryl is widespread in small amounts in pegmatite of the Olary region and has been obtained in the past as a by-product of felspar quarrying. The region has previously been systematically prospected for beryl by the Department of Mines. As in previous reports, it is here concluded that the amount of beryl present and its mode of occurrence do not justify development for mining of beryl alone.
