A suite of samples collected from the New South Wales portion of the Murray Basin and the south west corner of the Great Artesian Basin proved to be, on micro-palaeontological evidence, mainly of Lower Cretaceous age. Three from between Cobar and Wilcannia are of particular interest in extending the Cretaceous southward and providing a possible channel of entry of the Tambo Formation into the Murray Basin. A measured section from Morphett's Creek, mapped as Cretaceous, appears to be in the Adelaide System.
