Waratah Gypsum Company proposes the washing of gypsum before shipment. An investigation for that purpose was made in the Stenhouse Bay area by Mr. Sett in the period 15th January to 18th January 1956, then on loan from the Geological Survey of India. His report shows that the condition of groundwater prevailing in the near vicinity of Stenhouse Bay is such that yields sufficient for requirements would not be obtainable from one single bore or well. In a basin north of Marion Bay approximately seven miles northeast of the gypsum workings four bore holes have been constructed and pump tested. This Department has now been approached to supply further advice on the total hydrological conditions and the prospects of obtaining from this basin or areas more close the gypsum workings a quantity of 3,000 gallons per hour of water with a saline content less than 500 grains per gallon.
