A hydrological reconnaissance of the Elliston-Bramfield area on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula suggests that an incompletely explored fresh-water basin in the vicinity of Bramfield is capable of much more extensive development. The shallow potable waters of this basin are separated from the shallow brackish waters of the coastal strip by a low dividing range of hills. The nature and water potential of the deeper strata have not been determined, nor is the depth to basement rock known. Bores intended to yield information on these points have been suggested. It is further suggested that the proper exploration and exploitation of the Bramfield Basin might provide a source of water to augment the Todd Water Supply Scheme in time of drought.
