A quartzite bed 40 feet in thickness and overlying poorly-outcropping quartzite with possible shale 110 feet in thickness form the lower part of the Gilbert Range Quartzite 2 miles north-east of Watervale. The beds lie on the west limb of a north-pitching syncline. A stadia surrey has proved for a depth of 20 yards a volume of more than 60,000 cubic yards of hard white felspathic quartzite.
