Open tube sampling in five bores entered stiff mottled brown silty clays at 26 to 35 feet, in the school grounds, extending to at least 50 feet. Overlying sediments were soft silty clays, clayey silts and unconsolidated sands. These stiff clays are expected to give effective support for foundation piling subject to the driving of a test pile.
