The raw gypsum contains 86.3 per cent. CaSO4.2H2O. This figure could not be improved by the conventional washing methods tried. The light brown colour of the raw material is not improved by washing. Colour determinations of the calcined fractions show that washing is beneficial as the plaster made from the washed product is whiter than that produced from the head sample. Comparison of the plaster casts with a cast made from plaster available in Adelaide showed that the former appears to be light brown in colour. Whether this colouration will be detrimental to the sale of products can only be determined by an approach to the market.
