Approximately 1100 to 2800 feet thickness of Triassic sediments are preserved in a synclinal basin 8 ½ miles east of Gordon. The area of the basin is approximately 3 ½ square miles and it contains up to 1200 feet of coal measures, including many thin impure coal seams. The Triassic sediments are believed to have been deposited in a piedmont environment. 6000 feet of test drilling was done in the basin and no economic deposits of coal were discovered. No further testing is warranted. The basin is believed to have been preserved by a combination of faulting and infolding and search for repetitions during regional mapping is recommended.
