The Billy Springs Mine, situated in the Northern Flinders Ranges is located on the north limb of a westerly pitching syncline. Within this main syncline, disharmonic folding has produced a central anticline flanked by synclines to the north and south. Sediments include silicified dolomite, massive “hornfels”, grey-green sericite-biotite quartzitic phyllite, dolomite, tremolite dolomite and tillite of the Sturtian Series in the Adelaide System. The ore body is localised at the intersection of the regional cleavage and dolomite and tremolitic dolomites. The intersection of these planes pitch 21° towards 287°(M). previous writers described the lode dipping northerly, observation in the open cut indicate the lode strikes of 110° dips 80-85° southerly which is parallel in dip and strike to the cleavage here. The main dolomite formation is calculated to underlie the collar of the main shaft at a depth of between 400-500 feet. Nuggets of galena found in the alluvium may form a rich little deposit which require further testing.
