The site of a proposed pump storage site at Salt Creek was investigated by eleven diamond drill holes. Most of the site is underlain by greywacke and quartzite of the Kanmantoo Group (Backstairs Passage Formation), with minor pockets of Permian glacial sediments in the reservoir rim. No serious defincies are present in th Kanmantoo Group rocks, except that deep weathering at the seaward end of the outlet tunnel route may provide difficult construction conditions.
