Test boring of the proposed Upper Port Reach Tidal Basin has been completed, with 33 bores totalling 518 feet. Sediments comprise mottled brown clays, sandy clays, sands, silts and shell beds with occasional travertine limestone. The proportion of clay in the effective drilling completed was 15.6%. Assessment of the settling characteristics of the sediments after dredging awaits results of particle size analyses now in progress.
