Drilling has detected sand of early Tertiary age overlain by younger loam, kunkar and clay. The sand is lying unconformably on weathered Precambrian bedrock or on Permian glacial clay. Drilling on Section 140, Hundred Willunga has failed to locate a workable deposit of sand. In Section 142, two and a half million cubic yards of sand are covered by two million cubic yards of overburden. Further reserves may be proved by deeper drilling. Unwashed sand is suitable for all building purposes.
