Five bore holes were put down on the site of a proposed Power Station on Torrens Island, to test foundation conditions below the site. Boring revealed two sequences of sediments of Pleistocene to Recent age. The upper sandy sequence will be subject to settlement. The sandy clay organic material would be unsuitable because concrete structures could be sulphated. The lower clayey sequence is a much stronger material than the upper sandy sequence, but considerable variation occurs.
