Detailed geological mapping of the area has shown complex structures. Basement rocks consisting of Sturtian tillites are considered suitable for the foundations of a 30 feet high earth fill dam. At the surface the rocks are slightly weathered and joints and fissures appear which need further investigation. Drilling will be necessary before final decisions can be made on the location of the site. Construction material such as clay may not be readily available, but should be obtainable at a short distance from the site.
