Two diamond drillholes were completed over the period January to July 1963 in the initial stages of investigation of the Dawesley aeromagnetic anomaly, aiming mainly to test two IP anomalies 1 mile apart that had been detected on SADM grid line 1000 feet South, as well as a feeble soil copper geochemical anomaly that is present in part of the anomaly area. Holes DD1 and DD2, both drilled for Allied Minerals NL by SADM, were collared 400 feet apart and were directed at shallow westwards inclinations to total depths of 241.78 m and 228.80 m respectively, and both holes penetrated greywackes and schists of the Cambrian Kanmantoo Group. The best mineralised intercept encountered was 0.7 m @ 1.2% Cu from the hole interval 83.9-84.6 m in DD2. No other significant mineralisation was encountered.
