At the request of Mr. Schuman, Engineer South Australian Housing Trust, 14 sets of auger barrel samples were examined at the premises of K.W.G. Smith, consulting Civil Engineer, Park Terrace Wayville. Each set of samples comprised continuous core material to a depth of four feet. The diameter of the samples was about 2 inches. It was requested that the samples be described in a manner consistant with usual Soils Geology Section techniques and that the profiles be classified according to Bulletin 32, The Soils and Geology of Adelaide and Suburbs. The material was also to be subject to laboratory testing. It was desired that a comparison of the geological description and interpretation with the soil test results would enable better engineering understanding of geological reports and provide the soils geologist with test data with which he could register his interpretations in terms of engineering requirements. Descriptions of the profiles are appended to this report. The soil profiles are shown in section on an accompanying plate.
