A potential limestone deposit near Yongala, to be used as railway ballast on the Port Pirie-Cockburn railway, was investigated by a stadia survey and the drilling of five diamond holes up to 18m deep. The holes intersected variably weathered Adelaidean (Burra Group) limestone, but the quality was not adequate for the purpose required.
