The sites of four cuttings on the Ucolta-Paratoo deviation of the Port Pirie-Cockburn railway were investigated by one diamond drill hole at each site, ranging from 15 to 31m deep. The holes intersected various hard fresh Adelaidean (Burra Group) sediments from the surface to the depth tested. All sites will require blasting. One site on the Jamestown-Yongala deviation was tested by three diamond drill holes up to 15m deep. The holes encountered moderately weathered Burra Group limestone which will probably be amenable to ripping.
