The South Australian Government Department of Mines requested an investigation on refractories which was to take the form of a review of the industry and its requirements. Aspects of particular interest to be studied were listed by the Sponsor as follows: a. Principal raw material suppliers and consumers in South Australia b. Source and order of quantities used annually c. Quality and specification of raw material requirements d. Unit cost of raw material supplies e. Attitude of raw material consumers to usage of potentially available local material in lieu of interstate or overseas imports f. From the conclusions drawn from the investigation, recommendations (if any) on avenues of investigation considered worth while by the Department of Mines and by AMDL.
