The site of a proposed silo at Bute was investigated by drilling two cable tool holes 15 m and 9 m deep. The drilling encountered surficial soil and red/green mottled clay of the Hindmarsh Clay overlying inferred Cambrian Parara Limestone which has completely weathered to ferruginous and manganiferous silty clay. Flint is common in places. The structure could be supported on footings placed below the surficial soil.
