In South Australia there are a number of limestone occurrences which have been worked for long periods, and a high tonnage of limestone fines has accumulated. These fines are of too low a grade to be used commercially, and the Department of Mines requested an investigation into the beneficiation of limestone fines from Angaston, Klein Point and Rapid Bay. This report deals with limestone fines from Angaston only. The object was to upgrade the limestone fines to at least 95.0 per cent CaCO3, and a test programme was designed involving screening, flotation and magnetic separation. Two lump samples were also received from the limestone deposit at Angaston for mineralogical examination and chemical and spectrographic analysis. The possibility of photometric sorting of this material was also investigated.
