A survey of the local foundry industry disclosed a need for a basic foundry sand and it was decided that South Australian deposits of glauconite should be investigated with the object of producing a suitable material for testing by local foundries. Some field investigations were undertaken to determine the availability of glauconite. These met with only limited success, but a sample, the examination of which forms the subject of the present report, was collected near Port Julia on Yorke Peninsula.
