At Happy Valley, Pliocene freshwater sands and clays, capped by a lateritic horizon, are underlain by marine Blanche Point Marls of Eocene age. Boring has proved 2 million cubic yards of fine clayey sand with ¾ million cubic yards of waste material. The bulk of the sand is suitable for garden or filling purposes. The coarser grained lenses would provide a source of construction sand if selectively quarried.
