This report is complementary to an Amdel report in preparation entitled “Review of Lead Smelting Operations” and to a similar report on copper smelting operations which will be prepared at a later date. When concentrates are not smelted by the company which mines and concentrates the ore, they may be either sold outright to the smelting company, or smelted for an agreed charge, the product remaining the property of the mining company. Sale of concentrate has been the arrangement proposed by the smelting companies from whom enquiries have been made in preparing this report. In seeking quotations for the purchase of lead concentrates, it has been useful to have a specific concentrate to cite. This is a laboratory flotation concentrate produced from a preliminary Ediacara sample. The chemical analysis of this material is given in Appendix B. Because of the usual association of zinc with lead in ores, some information regarding zinc has been included. At this present time there is no proven copper deposit in South Australia which can be considered for exploitation. The type of copper concentrate, whether sulphide or oxidised, which might be produced if exploration is fruitful is thus undefined and prices can only be discussed generally.
