Investigation of the site of a proposed housing subdivision at Auldana Estate was initially requested by the Town Planner, in a letter dated 30th November, 1964 sent to the Director of Mines. The area has been previously examined by the SADM Hydrology Section. A report prepared by E.R. Hillwood and forwarded to the Town Planner’s Office on 3rd March, 1965 adequately covers most aspects of the general geology, topography and drainage. The additional problems posed by excavation for road cuttings and benching of individual allotments, have been referred to the SADM Engineering and Soils Geology Section for comment. The estate was inspected on 5th May, 1965, in company with messrs. D.H. Stapledon, Senior Geologist, and J.A.C. Painter, Geologist. A reconnaissance survey based on surface exposures, power line excavations and a few disused rock quarries has been made. Comments given herein are based on limited superficial observations, and supplement the opinions expressed in the previous report by Hillwood.
