A site investigation for a proposed two-storey Primary School at Bradford Street, Whyalla, was carried out using two percussion holes. Hole 1 and Hole 2 were drilled to a depth of 96 and 52 feet respectively. The sequence above 27 feet consists of pale brown sands with some coarser layers and bands of semi-hard gypsiferous crust. Below 27 feet, the mottled sands become more uniform and less clayey and gradually increase in density. Water was struck at 35 feet in both drillholes, and the saline content will probably be high.
