The Paratoo copper deposit occurs in a sequence of laminated siltstones dipping steeply towards the east and striking northerly. The main copper ore mineral exposed at the surface is malachite. Thin sections of mineralised rock showed that malachite occurred as both detrital grains and vein filling. Copper sulphides are rare and only one relic grain was recognised in a quartz lode. Cobalt: Nickel ratios are anomalous and the unusual concentrations of these metals together with manganese and copper in the vicinity of quartz veins and granitic rock indicates a genetic relationship to an igneous source. Surface sampling indicates that an average grade of 1% copper can be anticipated in the mineralised zone. Total reserves are estimated at 4050 tons of Cu ore per vertical foot.
