Adelaide Cement Co. Ltd. has operated a Limestone quarry from the cliffs near Klein Point, Yorke Peninsula since 1925. The annual output is about 250,000 tons; production to date exceeds three and a half million tons. A programme of diamond drilling was undertaken in Hd. Dalrymple, sections 7, 8 and 9 to procure samples for analysis, to determine variability in composotion of the limestone and to prove overburden thickness to aid in future quarry development. In all, 93 bores were drilled having an aggregate footage of 8,634 feet. The bores averaged 93 ft. in depth and ranged generally from 70ft. to 100ft. A number penetrated the full thickness of exploitable limestone and were completed in a sandy limestone-grit sequence; the deepest bore was no. 37, at 168ft. Bore logs are detailed in the appendix with relevant analytical data. Within sections 7, 8 and 9 Hd. Dalrymple reserves of limestone suitable for cement production exceed 75 million cubic yards above sea level. Overburden totals 22 and a half million cubic yards though a proportion of this comprises kunkar which can also be utilised. Limestone outlined by drilling is similar in composition and physical condition to that already exposed to quarry operations. When clays and siliceous bands are rejected, the total carbonate content of the product will be in the range of 85% to 92%.
