The site for a proposed 2 cell reinforced concrete silo in the railway yards at Wanbi was investigated using four percussion drillholes. Hole No. 1 was drilled to 65 ft. and hole No. 2 to a depth of 31 ft. A near-surface kunkar layer 3 feet thick, proved too hard to tube sample and was drilled by percussion bit. Hole Nos. 3 and 4 were subsequently drilled 30ft. either side of hole No. 1 to prove the continuity of the kunkar horizon. A sequence of sandy clays and clayey sands extends to 22 ft. Very dense fine grained fluvio-lacustrine sands extends to the full depth of testing (65 feet).
