In May 1965 an exploratory resistivity survey conducted near Waikerie revealed the presence of buried zones of low resistivity that are probably caused by evaporation of saline groundwaters ponding above the Blanchetown Clay formation, which indicates that barriers exist to downward percolating fresh waters. The resistivity results are considered as reliable, but to facilitate correlation of similar data acquired in future surveys it will be necessary to space the electrical soundings at intervals of the order of 500 feet between control boreholes.
