Following a request from Mr. A. Dancauskis of the Public Buildings Department, in November, 1966, geological investigations to determine the cause of failure in the Darlington Primary School main building were commenced. A confirmatory request (Public Buildings Department Purchase Order No. B033851) for geological investigations was received in February, 1967. The main building of two stories, built of Mt. Gambler stone, shows extensive cracking of load-bearing walls in the central part. There is little or no sign of cracking near the ends of the building. The building was completed early in 1963, and the first cracks were noted in November of that year. Since then cracking has become more severe. The building is founded on piers which are thought to be 5 to 6 ft deep.
