In view of the occurrence of groundwater at shallow depth in the South-East, development of irrigated pastures and growing of vegetables has increased the demand for groundwater considerably over the last few years. The capacity of the Tertiary and Quaternary aquifers is insufficiently known to assess to what extent further development can be propagated. Extensive investigations on surface rain-fall and other meteorological factors and ground-water occurrences are to be carried out in the very near future. In order to obtain knowledge of the aquifer characteristics in the zone and to prevent unpopular restriction in drilling or pumping rates, an increase in hydrogeological staff and establishment of an S.E. Office is recommended.
