A deposit of bedded phosphate rock occurs in a siltstone unit 40-50 feet thick within an essentially calcareous sequence 25 miles south of Adelaide. Approximately 8,000 tons of phosphate rock were removed in the period 1907 to 1930. There are possible reserves of a further 20,000 tons of 50-60% tri-calcium phosphate in a bed 2-4 feet thick, and with an overburden-to-ore ratio of 3:1 or 4:1. An alumina plus iron oxide content of 10-20% is expected. The phosphate occurs in the form of minute apatite crystals. A good correlation exists between phosphorite and radioactivity. It is recommended that the deposit be tested by drilling. Exploration should be extended to test above and below the Brighton Limestone elsewhere, concentrating on the region extending from Oliver's to beyond Wait’s Phosphate Quarry 1½ miles to the north-west.
