Foraminifera and stratigraphy of four water bores in the Hundred of Stirling and one bore in the Hundred of Laffer have been examined. The total thickness of the Cainozoic sequence to bedrock, proved in two bores, varies from 398 feet near Emu Flat, 4 miles east of Keith, to 288 feet 8½ miles west of Keith, towards the Padthaway Ridge. Coomandook Formation (Pleistocene), Ettrick Formation (Oligocene), Buccleuch Group (Upper Eocene), and Renmark Beds (Eocene) are present in each of the bores. Only basinwards in two bores near Emu Flat is Gambier limestone (Oligo-Miocene to Oligocene) recognized between Coomandook and Ettrick Formations. Recognition of a series of planktonic foraminiferal zones enables dating and correlation of the Gambier-Ettrick - Buccleuch sequence.
