On 17th January, 1968, the E. & W.S. Department requested an investigation to ascertain the best location for additional bores to augment supplies to consumers in Bordertown, The supply is obtained at present from three boreholes fitted with pumps capable of a continuous maximum delivery of 28,000 g.p.h. (approximately 450 g.p.m.) This has proved insufficient to meet peak demands, despite pumping for a maximum period of 20 hours a day. Initial discussions with the E. & W.S. Department centred around the possibility of increasing the pumping rate from one or more existing boreholes, and it was pointed out that further boreholes were desirable to: • increase the maximum available discharge against a future long term rise in demand • achieve greater flexibility of output, to cope with wide fluctuations in demand.
