The Dublin 1:63 360 map area is located on the ADELAIDE 1:250 000 map area, and is centred about 40 miles north-west of Adelaide. Within this area, possible Adelaide System rocks are unconformably overlain by Tertiary marine limestones, sands, silts and clays of the Port Willunga Beds. A borehole 5 miles north of Dublin penetrated 242 feet of Tertiary units. Reworking of Port Willunga Beds indicates disconformity with the overlying units of ?Plio-Pleistocene sands and gravels, and a mottled sand (stone) found in a cliff section in the western portion of the map area. Another disconformity is inferred above the mottled sand (stone) and is supported by evidence outside the mapped area. As well as soils, a mosaic of aeolian, fluvial, shallow marine and transitional Quaternary deposits cover a major part of the area. These units comprise the Fulham Sand, Pooraka and Hindmarsh Clays (together about 120 feet thick), the St Kilda Formation of silty shell sand both as beach ridges and swamps, and an Anadara bearing calcreted shelly limestone – the Glanville Formation. Soil horizons consist of the Loveday Soil, and various calcretes including the calcrete in the Bakara Soil and the Ripon Calcrete.
