Geochemical follow-up soil sampling performed near Nichols Nob, over stream sediment base metal anomalies previously recognised along the western margin of the Mount Burr Diapir, has delineated several copper anomalies. The largest of these have formed over bedrock of the Yudnamutana Sub-Group, at the edge of the diapir, and over black shales lying within the diapir. Most of the smaller anomalies are related to local vein-type mineralisation, and are thought to be insignificant. The black shales, which may have malachite spotting that is suggestive of possible syngenetic mineralisation, are much thicker than nearby exposures of the Tindelpina Shale Member, and may be of Torrensian age. Geophysical investigations of the larger geochemical anomalies have been recommended.
