In August 1966, a request for assistance with conducting pyritic sulphur exploration in the vicinity of Brukunga was received by the SA Department of Mines from Nairne Pyrites Pty Ltd. Brukunga is 29 miles east of Adelaide by road and 3.5 miles north of Nairne. Initially, this exploration was to cover the Timmin's Hill area, and an estimate of ore reserves plus the quantity of overburden and waste to be removed was requested. Exploration activities were subsequently extended to the South End Hill, Ironstone Ridge and Mount Beevor Estate areas as a result of operations undertaken at Timmin's Hill. The work carried out at Ironstone Ridge (Part 4) is intended to provide a basis for future detailed exploration, similar to that which has now been carried out at Timmin's Hill (Part 3) and South End Hill (Part 2). The Mount Beevor Estate area was not investigated in detail, and thus is not discussed in this report.
