Mapping and sampling beyond the area of the Myponga phosphate quarry has indicated the existence of further occurrences of phosphate rock. The phosphate-bearing areas have been faulted, producing a number of isolated blocks. At least two phosphatic horizons are present, the major one consisting of a fifteen feet thick bed of 10 – 20% P2O5. The phosphate is present as pods of collophane or finely crystalline apatite in the rock matrix. Drilling of the known occurrences is necessary before reserves can be estimated. Further exploration by drilling and sampling have been recommended.
