Veins of barytes, and massive lenses up to 40 feet wide, were deposited within a fault zone trending east-west across a periclinal structure in beds of the Umberatana and Wilpena Groups. The barytes is associated with up to about 3.5% strontium sulphate (barytocelestite), iron oxides and silica, and was probably formed by low temperature hydrothermal fluids. It is estimated that there are at least 3500 tons of barytes available in outcrops above ground level, in addition to 1250 tons per vertical foot below ground level, totalling about 30 000 tons to a depth of 20 feet. Tests performed on two samples indicated specific gravities of 4.36 and 4.34. The position of the lodes along the crest of an elongated ridge favours open cut working.
