Two exploration wells are proposed to evaluate the stratigraphy and the mineral potential (for hydrocarbons, evaporites, coal) of the Devonian and Permian sequences of the Boorthanna Trough. The wells are planned to be put in on the seismically delineated Warragarrana Structure. The first well, with a target depth of about 6000 feet, is designed to test a wedge-out section in the Permo-Carboniferous on the west flank of the structure. The second well, with a minimum depth of 4700 feet, is intended to investigate the Devonian potential and possible evaporite "cap rock" associations. Information on possible coal deposits may be regarded as an additional benefit. The wells will also be of great importance as control points for geophysical exploration in the Boorthanna Trough, and will be essential for further evaluation of that area.
